I have worked for 14 years as a special education teacher, school counselor and currently as a special education program specialist supporting the teachers and programs at multiple sites in the district. I'm also a parent raising three extraordinary boys -- age 15, 13 and 8 -- in this community. I've experienced and learned about the inner workings of multiple levels in a school district -- and I'm ready to put my background and experience to work for our kids and our community.
I moved to Fullerton after graduating from the University of Arizona with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in special education to pursue a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology and a credential in School Counseling from CSUF. It was there that I met my husband. After earning my Education Specialist credential at Cal State Long Beach in order to teach students with special needs, we returned to Fullerton to raise our children. Our boys have attended elementary school here as well as junior high, and one is now in high school at Sunny Hills High School. Through our children -- including their study of martial arts and countless seasons of baseball and soccer -- we have rooted our lives here in Fullerton and become active members of the community.
Prior to working in the district, I worked for a community services organization supporting families with children transitioning from locked mental health treatment facilities back into their home and communities. I have taught students with learning disabilities as well as students with significant impairment due to mental health issues.
From the inside out, I have an in-depth understanding of how school districts operate, how money is allocated, and how schools need to grow and change to meet the demands of modern life and modern learners.
